An assessment of diagnostic methods must consider three steps: (1) Diagnostic workup: ultrasound has contributed to rational strategies in many fields of medicine. (2) Therapeutic principles: there is evidence that ultrasound has had a significant influence (3) Outcome of a disease; ultrasound has not been proven to have an unequivocal influence.
