Cell biology: How to short-circuit the cell cycle

Abstract

Although the cell cycle normally progresses from G₁toStoG₂toM and then back to G₁, certain manipulations have been found to 'short circuit' the cycle, causing repetitions of some stages while skipping others. A new study suggests how these changes limit the actions of molecular 'latches' that normally ensure orderly cell cycle progression.
