What is the obligation of the medical profession in the distribution of health care?

Soc Sci Med F. 1981 Dec;15F(4):129-33.

Abstract

KIE: It is argued that the distribution of health care resources is primarily a social obligation based on the principle of equality of opportunity. The obligations of the individual physician and of the medical profession are acquired through their roles within the social system of health care institutions. Furthermore, these social obligations need not involve any sacrifice of fundamental personal freedom by physicians.
