A new look at proliferation

Acta Oncol. 2001;40(8):989-94. doi: 10.1080/02841860152708288.

Abstract

Assessment of proliferation has failed to make an impact on clinical radiotherapy. In this review, a different view of proliferation, its organization and its implication for radiotherapy are presented. Cell kinetic heterogeneity is present in all tumours and understanding and measuring this heterogeneity might reveal insight and tools to predict the mode of failure and repopulation during different schedules of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
