Abstract

PIP: Having met public resistance during the emergency period of 1976-77, efforts were undertaken the following year to increase public acceptance of the Family Welfare Program. These efforts were continued by the Population Centre in 1978-79, through a variety of studies and surveys focusing on different aspects of 2 major areas of investigation: 1) assessment and improvement of Family Welfare services and 2) improvement of methods for education of the public about the services offered, combined with efforts to motivate the public to use these services. Other activities of the Center included development of an index for assessment of the achievement of Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Services; evaluation of the performance of the India Population Project in different districts; consideration of increased participation by the Centre in national programs, increased participation by centre personnel in professional meetings, and provision by the centre of technical assistance to other agencies. Efforts to increase the circulation of research results were considered, and a work plan for 1979-80 was formulated.
