PIP: This documentation of violence against women in war and armed conflict in Congo is concentrated on a target population of women in Bukavu who suffered particularly during the invasion of the Kabila soldiers in the Bukavu area. It is noted that many of the women have died of rape or were killed by Kabila's soldiers. A lot of them who lived are noted to be battling with HIV/AIDS, most probably resulting from the mass rapes. In addition, estimates indicate that about 1300 women got pregnant from the rapes, and gave birth to infants, many of whom are now suffering from AIDS. This report includes personal testimonies of three women victims in order to get a closer picture of the horrors and violations the women suffered under the war. Overall, the women victims demand that once peace returns to Congo, the perpetrators should be brought to justice and redress provided to the victims.
