International migration in India: levels, trends and policy implications

Abstract

PIP: The author investigates recent trends in India's international migration, with a focus on the movement of professionals and other skilled workers to developed countries, and the temporary migration of workers to oil-rich Middle Eastern countries. In addition, trends in refugee migration, permanent emigration, and illegal migration from Bangladesh are outlined, and policy implications are considered.
