PIP: The political and social implications of population policies are considered, with particular reference to developed countries. The author describes the history of attempts to develop pro-natalist policies in Sweden and Germany, as well as the objectives of such policies. Consideration is given to how far policies affecting human reproduction can or should be developed in order to achieve national demographic goals. The need for selective policies to take into account rural depopulation and urbanization is discussed.
