Abstract

PIP: This study examined the impact of family planning on the lives of women in China. The Chinese government recognizes that family planning programs benefit Chinese society but may have affected other individuals negatively. Study methodology includes a survey of 1996 women and 506 men, and 56 focus group discussions with 375 people. Results revealed that family planning had a positive effect on the various aspects of women's lives, including their health, household work, education opportunities, and ability to earn more income with more leisure time left for them. The study recommends the following: 1) expansion of reproductive health; 2) improvement of quality care; 3) update training for providers; and 4) increase the value of daughters.
