PIP: The author examines the use of tape recordings as a methodological tool for the collection of good quality data and for the evaluation of interviewers, with particular reference to the World Fertility Survey. In this study, 329 tape recordings from the Bangladesh Fertility Survey field work are analyzed in order to detect occurrences of leading questions, wrong question sequences, misreported answers, and insufficient probing
