Background: Toxic hypermagnesemia is a wellknown adverse effect of intravenous magnesium.
Case: A woman with postpartum eclampsia was treated with intravenous magnesium at another hospital and then transferred to our hospital due to cardiopulmonary failure. Blood magnesium and creatinine levels were markedly elevated. Hemodialysis rapidly improved her condition.
Conclusion: Hemodialysis is effective for toxic hypermagnesemia caused by intravenous magnesium in a case of severe renal insufficiency.
