T helper type-2 cytokine responses: potential therapeutic targets

Curr Opin Pharmacol. 2003 Aug;3(4):449-55. doi: 10.1016/s1471-4892(03)00077-8.

Abstract

T helper (Th)2 cell-mediated immune responses are associated with parasitic helminth infections and atopic disorders. The production of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-9 and/or IL-13 by Th2 cells mediates a range of responses that can be protective or pathogenic. Progress has recently been made in elucidating the mechanism of Th2 immunity, which has therapeutic potential for the treatment of allergic diseases.
