Nursing and long-term care concerns of foot care in the elderly

Clin Podiatr Med Surg. 2003 Jul;20(3):383-94. doi: 10.1016/S0891-8422(03)00031-4.

Abstract

The elderly are particularly susceptible to foot problems caused by underlying disease states, foot deformities, and alteration in the normal perfusion to the lower leg and foot. As a consequence, mobility may be compromised and quality of life threatened. Nurses, regardless of the setting in which they practice, are able to provide assessment, treatment, and education to geriatric patients to promote the care of the foot.
