Microbial transformation of benzocyclobutene to benzocyclobutene-1-ol and benzocyclobutene-1-one

Appl Environ Microbiol. 1992 Oct;58(10):3404-6. doi: 10.1128/aem.58.10.3404-3406.1992.

Abstract

Oxidation of benzocyclobutene by intact cells of Pseudomonas fluorescens 127-68 XVII, containing naphthalene dioxygenase, yielded exclusively benzylic oxidation products; benzocyclobutene-1-ol and benzocyclobutene-1-one. No evidence for incorporation of oxygen into the aromatic ring was found.
