Teaching cervical dilation measurement to family medicine residents

Fam Med. 2005 Jul-Aug;37(7):464-6.

Abstract

Background and objectives: Cervical dilation measurement is difficult to teach. This pilot study's objective was to determine if residents participating in an innovative workshop improved their cervical measurement accuracy when using soft cervical models in the classroom.

Methods: Resident physicians measured cervical models before and after the workshop. We compared pre-workshop and post-workshop coefficients of variation using a standard t test.

Conclusion: Residents reduced their measurement error from 38.2% to 15.6%.
