Materials that emit light by chemical reaction

Philos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci. 2002 Jan 15;360(1790):89-96. doi: 10.1098/rsta.2001.0920.

Abstract

Many chemical reactions are associated with the emission of electromagnetic radiation in the form of heat and/or light. This paper reviews the categories of materials that produce visible light when they react, either spontaneously upon contact with air or upon ignition, as well as the processes by which such materials are synthesized. Emphasis is placed on compositions and processes that relate most closely with those found in nature.
