The purpose of this paper is to clarify what acupuncture's possible mode of action is and for which diseases within the locomotor system acceptable evidence exists for its use. The author concludes that reasonable scientific evidence exists for the alleviation of myogenic facial pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain, low back pain and knee pain.
