In a series of articles authors discuss the literature data concerning epidemiology of pulmonary hypertension, its modern classification, peculiarities of pathogenesis and treatment in various diseases. In first communication they examine questions of terminology and classification of pulmonary hypertension and also discuss peculiarities of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of pulmonary circulation and right ventricle of the heart.
