Why do humans blink? A short review

Insight. Jul-Sep 2006;31(3):15-7.

Abstract

Blinking plays a critical role in the health of the eye. There are both voluntary and involuntary categories of human blinking that require both anatomical and neurophysiological components. Many factors have been determined to affect the human blink rate. As ophthalmic nurses and technicians, it is important to appreciate that certain patients may be predisposed to abnormal blinking rates.
