Improving communication with oncology patients: taping the consultation

Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol). 1992 Jan;4(1):46-7. doi: 10.1016/s0936-6555(05)80774-5.

Abstract

Patients are often dissatisfied with the information provided for them by doctors. A simple cheap method of improving communication by tape recording the initial consultation with oncology outpatients is described. Analysis of 100 taped consultations by a subsequent questionnaire revealed that patients and their relatives claimed enormous benefit from the opportunity to hear the consultation again.
