Exact deployment of stents in ostial renal artery stenosis using the stent tail wire or Szabo technique

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv. 2009 Nov 15;74(6):946-50. doi: 10.1002/ccd.22116.

Abstract

This report describes a technique for the exact deployment of a stent in ostial renal artery stenosis (RAS) by using a second wire inserted through the last cell of a stent. This stent tail wire or anchor technique was first described by Szabo et al. (Am J Cardiol 2005; 96:212H) and facilitates precise aorto-ostial stent deployment in cases of atherosclerotic RAS. The technique also helps to eliminate errors of improper stent positioning at this aorto-renal junction, and may possibly minimize patient exposure to ionizing radiation and contrast dye.
