The development of information technologies and changes in the work methods observed over the recent twenty years has led to a significant increase in the number of office workers who use computers on a regular basis. The currently published data suggest that some musculoskeletal disorders, problems with peripheral nervous system or visual disturbances and psychosocial stress are associated with the described character of work. The results of systematically documented studies indicate that office workers are not well aware of preventive measures and suggest that the implementation of standard requirements or recommendations allow to reduce health risk associated with the use of computers at work. The presented arguments emphasize the urgent need to promote education in occupational prophylaxis among computer users.
