Am J Surg. 2009 Dec;198(6):742-7. doi: 10.1016/j.amjsurg.2009.07.030.

Abstract

Compassion fatigue or "burn out" occurs in all surgeons at some point in their career. Compassion fatigue can be identified, prevented and treated by simple measures of self care. In addition, learning techniques of mindfulness can allow surgeons to see their work in a way that decreases stress.
