Primary care of the patient in recovery

Prim Care. 2011 Mar;38(1):137-142. doi: 10.1016/j.pop.2010.12.001.

Abstract

In the long view, it is likely that the primary care physician will have more contact than other health care professionals with the patient in recovery and consequently needs to have a thorough understanding of the principles of recovery. The patients' personal physician can and should play a pivotal role in their recovery. Aside from knowledge of the principles of recovery, the most important factor in working with these patients may be the nature of the patient-physician relationship.
