Abstract

A 61-year-old female visited our hospital with the complaint of a left cervical hard tumor. Systemic examination revealed advanced gastric carcinoma with nodal involvement of para -aortic and Virchow's lymph nodes. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with S-1/cisplatin(CDDP)combination therapy was scheduled. Three courses of chemotherapy resulted in marked tumor regression and a reduction of lymph nodes. Total gastrectomy and D2+para-aortic node dissection were performed. The histological examination revealed complete disappearance of cancer cells in the gastric and nodal specimens, confirming a pathological complete response. The patient underwent postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy, and has been alive 5 years postoperatively without recurrence.
