The developing concept of implicit awareness: a rejoinder and reply to commentaries on Mograbi and Morris (2013)
Abstract
We reply to commentaries on our discussion paper (2013), clarifying our position on the points raised and expanding the scope of our description. We discuss, in particular, the dichotomy between explicit/implicit processes, the heterogeneity of anosognosia, the notion of awareness as an emergent process, and the pervasive role of emotion on awareness expression. We conclude by pointing to clinical implications of the phenomenon of implicit awareness.
Keywords: Alzheimer’s disease; Anosognosia; Awareness; Dementia; Hemiplegia; Implicit memory.
