Lower extremity reconstruction using myocutaneous flaps

Orthopedics. 1980 Nov 1;3(11):1097-101. doi: 10.3928/0147-7447-19801101-10.

Abstract

This report describes a group of 57 myocutaneous flaps utilized in reconstruction of lower extremities. Myocutaneous flaps were selected in our cases to provide the necessary soft tissue coverage for exposed bones following trauma or surgery. No other local flaps could have been substituted. Cross-leg pedicle flaps, with their known disadvantages, were thus avoided. Successful transfer of myocutaneous flaps can be anticipated in over 90% of cases.
