Abstract

Preview A reduction in bone mass seems to be inevitable with aging, but osteoporotic fractures need not be. As Dr Watts explains, recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis have been significant. Patients at increased risk of fracture can be identified with use of bone-density measurements, and proven and experimental treatment methods are available to prevent bone loss and increase bone mass.
