Proximal Iliotibial Band Syndrome in a Runner: A Case Report

PM R. 2019 Feb;11(2):206-209. doi: 10.1016/j.pmrj.2018.06.017. Epub 2019 Feb 12.

Abstract

Overuse injuries of the hip are frequent among runners and often present a diagnostic dilemma requiring imaging modalities beyond radiographs, delayed diagnosis, and prolonged time away from sport and activity. We report a case of a 38-year-old female recreational runner with progressive lateral hip pain and magnetic resonance imaging findings of edema along the gluteal aponeurotic fascia and origin of the tensor fascia lata muscle consistent with the diagnosis of enthesopathy of the proximal iliotibial band.
