Low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs), including dalteparin and enoxaparin, serve as essential anticoagulants in the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE). These agents are critical in preventing thrombotic complications in hospitalized patients and managing conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). This activity reviews the mechanism of action, adverse event profile, contraindications, and clinical toxicology of LMWH. Monitoring strategies are also addressed to optimize safety and efficacy during administration.
