The biology of aging, with particular reference to the musculoskeletal system

Clin Geriatr Med. 1988 May;4(2):257-67.

Abstract

A broad assessment of the current status of knowledge of biologic gerontology is presented. The extent to which the aging phenotype is due to primary aging processes, or to lifestyle, or to disease processes is discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on the aging of the musculoskeletal system. Both bone and skeletal muscle are discussed within the framework of our current knowledge of aging.
