Terrible Triad Elbow Fracture Dislocation with Ipsilateral Triceps Avulsion and Radial Shaft Fracture: A Case Report

JBJS Case Connect. 2020 Dec 10;10(4):e20.00308. doi: 10.2106/JBJS.CC.20.00308.

Abstract

Case: We report an unusual combination of injuries, terrible triad elbow fracture dislocation with ipsilateral avulsion of the triceps, and radial shaft fracture in a 23-year-old man. He was managed surgically and had good postoperative outcomes.

Conclusion: Evaluation of the triceps tendon avulsion injury is difficult in this context, such as problems evaluating the rotator cuff injuries after a shoulder fracture dislocation. Because of the diagnostic difficulty, a high index of suspicion is necessary.
