Associated psychopathology in conversion patients without organic disease

Acta Psychiatr Belg. 1987:87:654-61.

Abstract

The authors examine the associated psychiatric diagnoses of 100 consecutive patients with conversion symptoms without organic disease. More than 80% of the subjects present a coexisting psychiatric disorder. The most frequent are affective disorder, personality disorder, other "neurotic" disorder and substance abuse. The authors conclude that conversion should be considered as a nonspecific symptom.
