Comparison of the relationship between menopausal symptoms and loneliness and anger

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the symptoms of anger and loneliness among women in the menopausal period.

Design and methods: A total of 200 women in the menopausal period were interviewed within the scope of this study. Descriptive Information Form, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Trait Anger and Anger Expression Scale and Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire were used to collect data.

Findings: The mean score of the UCLA Loneliness Scale was found as 53.61 ± 7.68 and it was observed that the participants had high traits of anger and a high-level of loneliness. Loneliness and anger increase when menopausal symptoms increase in women.

Practice implications: Menopause is generally perceived by women as a troublesome period instead of being a normal life process. In order for women to spend this period at a more comfortable and desirable level, it is important to know cultural characteristics, social support systems, coping mechanisms.
