Abstract

Vascularized composite allotransplantation has become a widely accepted method for reconstruction or restoration of body parts, and the various ethical dilemmas that accompany vascularized composite allotransplantation have been widely discussed. As advancements in immunosuppression and tolerance continue to be made, the concept of living donor vascularized composite allotransplantation will likely become a popular option of the "reconstructive elevator." In this article, the authors discuss the various ethical implications of living donor vascularized composite allotransplantation.
