Fatty liver progression and carcinogenesis: Beware of pathogenic T cells

Med. 2021 May 14;2(5):453-455. doi: 10.1016/j.medj.2021.04.020.

Abstract

The pathogenesis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and NASH-related liver cancer is incompletely understood. In the recent issue of Nature, two studies by Dudek et al. and Pfister et al. revealed the critical role of CD8 T cells in instigating liver damage and promoting liver cancer in NASH.1,2.
