Vacuolar pool of magnesium in cells of the yeast Saccharomyces cereviciae

Biol Bull Acad Sci USSR. 1978 Sep-Oct;5(5):638-40.

Abstract

Cytochemical analysis and the fluorescence spectra of yeast cells indicate the existence of a vacuolar pool of magnesium and manganese in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It was suggested that the tonoplast of yeast cells contains a system of transport of Mg++ and cations of divalent metals, which participates in the regulation of the level of these ions in the cytosol.
