Abstract

Environmental adaptation requires reward prediction errors to be transmitted to the striatum by dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta of the midbrain. Various methods have been used to visualize the neural circuits involving dopaminergic neurons. In this review, we introduce single-neuron labeling using the membrane-targeting Sindbis virus and Cre-expressing AAV1 as anterograde transsynaptic tracers.
