Abstract

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a transient stress-induced cardiomyopathy, presenting with left ventricular systolic dysfunction and absence of obstructive coronary artery disease. In this case report, a 73-year-old woman presented with chest pain and subsequent out-of-hospital-cardiac arrest. A pericardial effusion was detected and pericardiocentesis performed during cardiac arrest. Resuscitation attempt was terminated after 90 min. Autopsy showed no sign of acute myocardial infarction or coronary disease but a rupture of the left ventricle assessed to be a complication of takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
