Prostate-sparing conservative management of a solitary fibrous tumor of the prostate: A case report

Urol Case Rep. 2025 Jun 19:61:103098. doi: 10.1016/j.eucr.2025.103098. eCollection 2025 Jul.

Abstract

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms with variable malignancy potential. We report a 69-year-old man with elevated PSA and an asymptomatic pelvic solid mass (42 × 32 × 48 mm), found on imaging between the bladder and anterior prostate. CT-guided biopsy confirmed an intermediate/low-risk SFT per WHO 2020. The lesion was successfully removed via robotic prostate-sparing surgery. Accurate histopathological diagnosis is key to avoid overtreatment, as SFTs can mimic more aggressive tumors. Complete excision offers good prognosis, though long-term follow-up is warranted due to potential for recurrence or progression.
