Solitary mesiodens in primary dentition

Abstract

This article reports a rare case of a preschool-aged girl child with a supernumerary tooth in the maxillary anterior region between the primary central incisors. Clinical and radiographic evaluations confirmed the presence of a conical supernumerary tooth without any associated pathology or anomalies in the developing permanent dentition. The supernumerary tooth was extracted under local anaesthesia to prevent obstruction or deflection of the permanent central incisors. Postoperative healing was uneventful, with follow-up confirming satisfactory recovery. The article highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of supernumerary teeth to prevent complications such as delayed eruption, crowding and displacement. It emphasises individualised treatment planning and regular follow-ups for favourable outcomes, contributing valuable insights to the limited literature on supernumerary teeth in primary dentition.
