Abstract

The field of orthopedic trauma surgery is vital and comprises a vast number of orthopedic injuries. In recent years, there has been a surge in emergency department referrals and surgeries performed because of acute skeletal trauma. Rapid and high-quality treatment enables swift rehabilitation and lowers healthcare costs. Nonetheless, it is difficult to recruit new orthopedic trauma surgeons and provide them with a well-designed training program in line with world standards. Recently, we introduced the first Israeli orthopedic trauma center at Hadassah Medical Center. This center runs a novel fellowship program in orthopedic trauma. Each year, two residents are recruited to the program and receive high quality training. They perform a variety of orthopedic surgeries, take part in national and international courses, and are involved in the academic field as well. They continue their training in leading trauma centers around the world for a year or two years to further develop their skills. These doctors will return to hospitals across the country with practical knowledge, creating a new community of trauma surgeons and providing a top-notch national orthopedic trauma service.
