Leukemic Optic Neuropathy Secondary to Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm in a Child

J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2025 Nov-Dec;62(6):e81-e84. doi: 10.3928/01913913-20250930-02. Epub 2025 Nov 1.

Abstract

A healthy 17-year-old boy was diagnosed as having blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), a rare hematologic malignancy. Vision changes prompted ophthalmology consultation, revealing peripheral field changes, retinal findings, and bilateral optic disc edema. Imaging confirmed bilateral optic neuropathy. This case highlights the potential for pediatric ocular involvement in BPDCN.
