Background: Patients with symptomatic subaortic membrane obstruction require open surgical intervention, and often an extensive Konno procedure is required. Catheter-based intervention has not been utilized in this therapeutic context.
First-in-human/early reports summary: A 53-year-old man with recurrent symptomatic subaortic membrane following prior surgical resection underwent catheter-based radiofrequency (RF) ablation resulting in sustained left ventricular outflow tract gradient reduction and improved symptoms.
Discussion: This case demonstrates the safety, feasibility, and short-term efficacy of RF ablation in managing fixed left ventricular outflow tract obstruction from recurrent subaortic membrane.
Novelty: Catheter-based approaches have not been previously utilized to address subaortic membrane obstruction.
Take-home message: Transcatheter RF ablation may offer a safe, minimally invasive option for select patients with recurrent subaortic membrane obstruction.
Keywords: catheter-based therapy; left ventricular outflow tract obstruction; radiofrequency ablation; subaortic membrane.
