Teamwork Attitudes, Perception of Clinical Stressors, and Preoperative Nursing Care Competence in Nursing Students: A Mediation Analysis

Abstract

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of teamwork attitudes on the relationship between the perception of clinical stressors and preoperative nursing care competence in nursing students.

Design: A correlational design.

Methods: The sample consisted of 620 nursing students. The data were collected via the Nursing Students' Clinical Stressor Perceptions Scale, the Teamwork Attitudes Questionnaire, and The Perceived Preoperative Nursing Care Competence Scale for Nursing students. Process Macro Model 4 was conducted to verify the mediating role.

Findings: The study found a mediating role of teamwork attitudes on the relationship between clinical stressors and preoperative nursing care competence. The perception of clinical stressors was significantly positively correlated with teamwork attitudes and preoperative nursing care competence. The significant standardized indirect effect of teamwork attitudes on preoperative nursing care competence verified a partial mediating role.

Conclusions: This study concluded that teamwork attitudes partially mediated the effect of perception of clinical stressors and preoperative nursing care competence.
