Metachromatic leukodystrophy (sulfatide lipidoses) cultured in vitro

Science. 1967 Apr 14;156(3772):243-5. doi: 10.1126/science.156.3772.243.

Abstract

Cerebral white matter from a patient with metachromatic leukodystrophly was successfully cultured in vitro. A luxuriant growth in Rose chambers and in roller tubes was apparent by the 14th day. The outgrown cells contained large numbers of granules which stained dark brown with cresyl violetacetic acid. The growth and metachromasia were maintained up to 80 days in vitro.
