Abstract

Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) has long been viewed as a salicylate-driven process. Recent evidence by Gaikwad et al. reveals an earlier, jasmonate- and calcium (Ca²⁺)-dependent systemic phase that precedes salicylate accumulation. This temporal dynamic refines prevailing models of jasmonate-salicylate crosstalk and suggests a previously underappreciated early phase of SAR establishment.
