One of the key tasks of forensic medicine is the expert assessment of bodily injuries. It must answer numerous questions related to the mechanism of injury, such as the magnitude of the force that caused the injury or the possibility of a more serious injury. The answers of the forensic medical expert not just reconstruct the events, but also play a significant role in the criminal classification of the act and, thus, in determining the sentence imposed in a forensic legal case. Forensic biomechanical knowledge can help the medical expert answer questions regarding the mechanism of injury, allowing him to provide objective, scientifically sound answers. This publication highlights the significance of this field of science and its potential application in forensic medical practice, supported by the research results of the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Pécs. Az igazságügyi orvostan egyik kiemelt feladata a testi sérülések szakértői véleményezése, amelynek során a sérülések keletkezési mechanizmusával kapcsolatosan számos kérdésre kell választ adni, így például a sérülést létrehozó erőbehatás nagyságára, illetőleg a súlyosabb sérülés keletkezésének lehetőségére. Az e kérdésekre adott szakértői válaszok az események rekonstruálása mellett a cselekmény büntetőjogi besorolásában, így a büntetés mértékének megállapításában is nagy szereppel bírnak. A testi sérülések keletkezési mechanizmusára vonatkozó kérdések megválaszolásában az igazságügyi orvostani biomechanikai ismeretek segíthetik az orvosszakértőt, ezáltal a számára feltett kérdésekre objektív, tudományos megalapozottságú választ adhat. A közlemény a Pécsi Tudományegyetem Általános Orvostudományi Kara Igazságügyi Orvostani Intézetének kutatási eredményeivel illusztráltan mutatja be ennek a tudományterületnek a jelentőségét, a szakértői gyakorlatban történő alkalmazási lehetőségeit.
