Unilateral pulmonary edema (down lung syndrome) following urological operation

J Urol. 1984 Oct;132(4):776-7. doi: 10.1016/s0022-5347(17)49868-5.

Abstract

We present 2 cases of unilateral pulmonary edema. The physiology of pulmonary ventilation and perfusion in relation to positioning for a urological operation is discussed. The lateral decubitus position can compromise down lung mechanics and result in unilateral pulmonary edema in situations when volume overload exists.
