Estrous synchrony: modulation of ovarian cycle length by female pheromones

Physiol Behav. 1984 May;32(5):701-5. doi: 10.1016/0031-9384(84)90181-1.

Airborne chemosignals from different phases of the rat's estrous cycle had opposing effects on the timing of the estrous cycle which were consistent with a coupled oscillator model of ovarian synchrony. Preovulatory odors shortened or phase advanced the ovarian cycle, whereas ovulatory odors lengthened or phase delayed the cycle.
